Kent P. Jackson was a professor of ancient scripture at Brigham Young University when this was written. Born in Salt Lake City, Jackson received a BA in ancient studies from BYU and an MA and PhD in Near Eastern studies from the University of Michigan. He is a former associate dean of Religious Education and associate director of the BYU Jerusalem Center for Near Eastern Studies. He is married and has five children.
