Richard E. Bennett was born and raised in Ontario, Canada. From 1978 to 1997, he was the head of Special Collections at the University of Manitoba. Brother Bennett received his PhD in US intellectual history from Wayne State University. He is married to Patricia Dyer, and together they have five children. He is now teaching Church history and Doctrine and Covenants at Brigham Young University.
