Ugo A. Perego is a researcher whose main focuses of study have been the genetic origins of Native Americans and the DNA of Joseph Smith. Perego worked as a senior scientist for the Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation (SMGF) in Salt Lake City, Utah from 1999 to 2012. He is currently a visiting scholar at the department of genetics at the University of Perugia in Italy, the Director of the Rome Institute Campus and a coordinator for the Seminaries and Institutes for Central/Southern Italy and Malta. In his spare time, he provides consulting services for ancestry, paternity and legal cases involving DNA data. He is also an adjunct faculty for Brigham Young University. He has earned a BSc and MSc in Health Sciences from Brigham Young University and a PhD in Genetics and Biomolecular Sciences from the University of Pavia, Italy under the mentorship of Professor Antonio Torroni. Ugo has lectured extensively internationally, authoring and coauthoring numerous articles on the use of DNA to research ancient population migrations, genealogies, and Mormon history.
