About the Editors
Michael Hubbard MacKay is an associate professor in the Department of Church History and Doctrine at Brigham Young University. He is lead historian and editor of Documents, Volume 1 in Documents series of The Joseph Smith Papers and the author or coauthor of several books, including From Darkness unto Light: Joseph Smith’s Translation and Publication of the Book of Mormon; Joseph Smith’s Seer Stones; and Sacred Space: Exploring the Birthplace of Mormonism. He is also the editor of several anthologies, including Producing Ancient Scripture.
William G. Hartley was a research historian for BYU’s Joseph Fielding Smith Institute for Church History. He received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Brigham Young University and completed doctoral course work at Washington State University. Hartley was a leading authority on Church history, having worked at the Church History Department and on the Joseph Smith Papers Project. His books have focused on family history research and histories of specific families and nineteen-century Latter-day Saint history. He and his wife, Linda, have six children.
