A. LeGrand "Buddy" Richards was an associate professor of educational leadership and foundations at Brigham Young University when this was written. Richards received a bachelor of science at BYU, his masters of education at Harvard University, and a doctorate in philosophy at BYU. He has published two books, as well as numerous articles in books and academic journals. He served as department chair from 2005 to 2009 and as president of the Far Western Philosophy of Education Society from 1995 to 1996. He has also been an assistant professor and visiting professor at the University of Würzburg, Germany. Specializing in educational philosophy, Richards has taught at BYU since 1985. He is married to Cindy Orton Richards, and they have five daughters and twelve grandchildren.
