George Eric Jarvis, MD, attended Brigham Young University prior to completing medical school at the University of Alberta, which was followed by specialty training in psychiatry, a research fellowship, and an MSc in social and transcultural psychiatry at McGill University. He is associate professor of psychiatry at McGill University, where he directs the Cultural Consultation Service and the First Episode Psychosis Program at the Jewish General Hospital. He publishes and presents at international conferences on topics in culture and mental health and the history of psychiatry. His current research evaluates the impact of culture, language, and religion on the diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders. Dr. Jarvis served a full-time mission in Paris, France, and has been a branch president and stake president. He and his wife, Catherine, have four children.
