[2] As in each of the Saints' gathering places before Nauvoo—in Kirtland, Independence, and Far West—temple sites were selected and dedicated. Therefore, it is not surprising that three and a half months before D&C 124 was received authorizing the building of and approving of site selection for a temple, Joseph Smith began to speak of the necessity of such a structure in Nauvoo.
