Next Meeting W Soby [2] on true friendship—he said true Friendship was such as a Man Laying Down his Life for his Friend. Joseph said there was a Diferance Between the vengance that Belongeth to the Lord [3], & a man Defending himself [4] or friend—of the Mamon of unrighteousnesss [5] Joseph said the Majority of man Kind was agn'st & true a [man] must Lavish His goods on all around him & out of them he will find freinds in the hour of Distress for those that have been made Ritch By the Benevalance of their Rich freind of them there will be some that will do you good in affliction—

[2] Leonard Soby was appointed a member of the Nauvoo High Council on 8 April 1841. After the Prophet's death he was disfellowshipped for supporting Sidney Rigdon's claim that he was Joseph Smith's successor.
