Abbreviations and Notes on Scripture
Churches
CofChrist: This refers to Community of Christ.
Church of Jesus Christ: This may occasionally be used as an abbreviation for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after the full name has been used.
LDS: This abbreviation, used only in scripture citations, refers to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While all efforts have been made to use the correct name of the church, this abbreviation was used in these citations for brevity and to clearly distinguish Latter-day Saint references from Community of Christ references.
Scripture
The Book of Mormon: The Book of Mormon is versed differently in the two churches, as in the following example: LDS 3 Nephi 11:7; CofChrist III Nephi 5:8. The first reference refers to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints edition. “CofChrist” is the abbreviation referring to Community of Christ editions and comes second.
Doctrine and Covenants: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Community of Christ use different editions. Again, the first reference refers to the Latter-day Saint edition, and the equivalent Community of Christ reference follows, as in the following example: LDS Doctrine and Covenants 89:5; CofChrist Doctrine and Covenants 86:1b.
Bible: The default Bible used by authors from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the King James Version (KJV). The default Bible used by Community of Christ authors is the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV). Any variation using another translation will be indicated.
Pearl of Great Price: If the Book of Moses is referenced, the equivalent Community of Christ reference is given in their Doctrine and Covenants, their volumes of church history, or a primary source. If the Book of Abraham is referenced, this refers only to scriptures used by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
