William P. Loewe was a professor of religion and religious education at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC when this was written.
A native of New Rochelle, New York, William P. Loewe received a BA in classics, philosophy, and French and an MA in French from Fordham University as well as a PhL from Loyola Seminary. After teaching high school languages, he went on to Marquette University, where he received a PhD in systematic theology. A member of the CUA faculty since 1973, he has focused on Christology and soteriology in his teaching. At various times he has served as department chair, associate dean, and chair of the Academic Senate. Active in the Catholic Theological Society of America and the College Theology Society, he has served as president of the latter.
