Steven C. Walker

Steve Walker specializes in Victorian and modern British literature. His interest in the fantasy literature of J.R.R. Tolkien and C. S. Lewis, with his work with the Center for the Study of Christian Values in Literature, has turned his attention increasingly toward moral criticism. His major research has focused on the Bible as literature. Professor Walker was a graduate coordinator for seven years and an associate chair of the English Department for five years. Now in his fifth decade at BYU, he regularly teaches the Bible as literature and later British literature. He has been Honors Professor of the Year, has been Teacher of the Year in the department fourteen times, was awarded a Karl G. Maeser Distinguished Teaching Award in 1989, was honored as the inaugural Brigham Young University Alumni Professor in 1992, and was later named Nan Osmond Grass Professor. He lives in Spanish Fork with his wife, Mary, contemplating the changes of seasons on the golf course.
