Elder Cecil O. Samuelson was called to serve as a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 1 October 1994. From May 2003 to May 2014, he presided as the twelfth president of Brigham Young University. Previously, Elder Samuelson had served as a member of the Presidency of the Seventy, as president of the Utah North Area, as second counselor in the North America West Area presidency, and as president of the Europe North Area. In June 2014, it was announced that he would begin service as president of the Church's Salt Lake Temple. He and his wife, Sharon Giauque Samuelson, have five children and twelve grandchildren.
