Elder Bruce D. Porter was called as a General Authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in April 1995. In 2003 he was called to serve as a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy. Prior to his full-time Church service, Elder Porter was serving as a professor of political science at Brigham Young University. He served earlier as executive director of the US Board for International Broadcasting and as a research fellow at Harvard University. He has also served as an analyst for the Northrop Corporation and as a staff member of the US Senate Armed Services Committee.
Elder Porter has served the Church as a bishop, branch president, stake president's counselor, and full-time missionary (Düsseldorf Germany Mission). Since being called as a General Authority, he has served in the Europe East Area Presidency, the Salt Lake City Area Presidency, and on the Middle East desk. He is currently serving as the Executive Director of the Correlation Department of the Church.
