Nauvoo Neighbor 2 (22 May 1844)
When Gen. Smith was called upon, he spoke with much talent, and ability and displayed a great knowledge of the political history of this nation, of the cause of the evils under which our nation groans, and also the remedy.

The following remarks of the Prophet at a political convention in Nauvoo are not in History of the Church or Teachings. At this convention Joseph Smith was unanimously nominated a candidate for President of the United States, and delegates were chosen to represent the decisions of the convention to be held at the Baltimore Convention in July 1844. His remarks are his acceptance speech. His murder on 27 June 1844 ended the campaign.
