Moses 4
from Kent P. Jackson, The Book of Moses and the Joseph Smith Translation Manuscripts (Provo, UT: Brigham Young University, Religious Studies Center, 2000), 79-85.
[1] And I the Lord God
spake unto Moses saying, That Satan whom thou hast commanded in the name of
mine only begotten is the same which was from the beginning, and he came before
me saying, Behold \ [i]
I [ii],
send me, I will be thy Son, and I will redeem all mankind, that one soul shall
not be lost; and surely, I will do it; Wherefore, give me thine honor. [2] But,
behold; my beloved Son, which was my beloved and chosen from the beginning, saith
<said> [iii]
unto me;
Father, thy will be done, and the glory be thine forever [iv]. [3] Wherefore, because that satan rebelled against me, and sought to destroy the

Agency of man, which I,
the Lord God had given him; and also that I should give unto him mine own
power; by the power of mine only begotten, I caused that he should be cast
down, [4] and he became Satan; yea, even the Devil, the father of all lies, to
deceive, and to blind men, and to lead them captive at his will, even as many
as would not hearken unto my voice. [5] and now the Serpent was more subtle
then any beast of the field which I the Lord God had made [6] and Satan put it
into the heart of the serpent \ [v]
for he had drew [vi]
away many after him; \ [vii]
and he sought also to beguile Eve, for he knew not the mind of Godl Wherefore,
he sought [viii]
to destroy the world, [7] yea [ix]
and he said unto the woman, yea, hath God said, ye shall not eat of every tree
of the garden. \ [x]
and he spake by the mouth of the Serpent \ [xi]
[8] <And the woman said unto the Serpent, we may eat of the
fruit of the trees of the garden> [xii] [9] but, of the fruit of the tree
which thou beholdest in the midst of
the garden, God hath said ye shall not eat of it neither
shall ye touch [xiii] it lest ye die [10] <And the serpent said unto the woman
ye shall [xiv] not surely die> [xv] [11] for God doth know that in
the day ye eat thereof
then your eyes shall be opened and ye shall be as Gods knowing good and evil.
[12] and when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it became
pleasant to the eyes [xvi],
and a tree to be desired to make her wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and
did eat; and gave also [xvii]
unto her husband with her, and he did eat; [13] and the eyes of them both were
opened, and they knew that they had been naked; and they sewed fig leaves [xviii]
together and made themselves aprons [xix].
[14] and they [xx]
heard the voice of the Lord God, <as he was <as they were>> [xxi]
walking in the garden in the cool
of [xxii] the day and Adam
and his wife hid
<went to hide> [xxiii]
themselves from the presence of I [xxiv]
the
Lord God
amongst [xxv] the trees of the garden [15] and I [xxvi] the Lord God called unto Adam and said unto him Where goest thou [xxvii] [16] and he said I heard thy [xxviii] voice in the garden and I was afraid because I beheld that I was naked and I hid myself. [17] and I [xxix] the Lord God said unto Adam who told thee [xxx] that [xxxi] thou [xxxii] wast [xxxiii] naked hast [xxxiv] thou [xxxv] eaten of the tree whereof I commanded [xxxvi] thee [xxxvii] that thou [xxxviii] shouldest [xxxix] not eat if so thou [xl]
should<est> [xli]
surely die [18] and the man said, the woman whom [xlii] thou [xliii] gavest [xliv] me and saidest <unto her> [xlv] remain with thee [xlvi] she [xlvii] gave me of the \ [xlviii] tree
and I
did eat. [19] and I [xlix], the Lord God, said unto the woman, what is this thing [l] which thou [li] hast [lii] done. and [liii] the woman said, the Serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. [20] \ [liv] and \ [lv] <I> [lvi] the Lord God
said unto the
serpent, because thou hast done this, thou shalt be cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy

Belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life; [21] and I will put enmity between thee, and the woman; between they seed and her seed, and [lvii] it <he> [lviii] shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt
bruise
his heel. [22] \ [lix] unto the woman I the Lord God [lx] said [lxi] I will greatly
multiply thy [lxii]
sorrow, and thy [lxiii] conception; in sorrow thou [lxiv] shalt [lxv] bring forth children, and thy [lxvi] desire shall be to thy [lxvii] husband, and he shall rule over thee [lxviii]. [23] and \ [lxix] unto Adam, I, the Lord God, said [lxx]; because
thou [lxxi]
hast [lxxii] hearkened unto the voice of thy [lxxiii] wife, and hast [lxxiv] eaten of the \ [lxxv] tree \ [lxxvi] which I commanded thee [lxxvii], saying; thou [lxxviii] shalt [lxxix] not eat of it; cursed shall be the ground for thy [lxxx] sake; in sorrow shalt
thou [lxxxi] eat of it all the days of thy [lxxxii] life; [24] thorns also, and thistles shall it bring forth to thee [lxxxiii]; and thou [lxxxiv] shalt [lxxxv] eat the herb of the field; [25] in [lxxxvi] the sweat of thy [lxxxvii] face shalt [lxxxviii] thou [lxxxix] eat bread, until thou [xc] shalt [xci] return unto the ground, for thou [xcii] shalt [xciii] surely die for out of it wast thou [xciv] taken, for dust thou [xcv] wast [xcvi], and unto dust shalt thou [xcvii] return. [26] \ [xcviii] and [xcix] Adam called his wife's name Eve, because she was the mother of all living; for thus have I the Lord God called the first of all women, which are many. [27] <Unto Adam also, and
to [c] his wife, did I the Lord God, make coats of Skin [ci] and clothed
them> [cii] [28] And I, the
Lord God, said, unto
mine only begotten Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and
evil; and now lest he put forth his hand, and partake also of the tree of life,
and eat, and live forever; [29] therefore, I, the lord God sent <will
send> [ciii]
him forth from
the garden of
Eden, to till the
ground from whence he was taken; [30] for, as I, the Lord God, liveth, even so
my word<s> [civ]
cannot [cv]
return void, for, as they go forth out of my mouth, they must be fulfilled.
[31] so I drove out the man, and I placed at the east of the garden of Eden,
Cherubims [cvi]
and a flaming Sword, which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of
life. [32] <(> [cvii]
and these [cviii]
are the words which I spake
unto
my servant Moses and they are true even as I will and I have spoken them unto you see thou show [cix] them unto no man until I command you except they [cx] that believe \ [cxi] amen <)> [cxii]
